TRAUMA THERAPY VIRTUALLY IN DALLAS AND THROUGHOUT TEXAS & OREGON: SUPPORT FOR HEALING FROM WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW IT STILL SHOWS UP

If something from your past still has a grip on you — if you react in ways that feel bigger than the moment, shut down when things get too close, or carry memories you’d rather not look at — you’re not overreacting, and you’re not stuck forever. Trauma isn’t just about what happened. It’s about what your mind and body had to do to get through it, and how those survival patterns keep running long after the danger has passed.

Trauma doesn’t have to be one big, dramatic event to count. For many people, it’s the slow, repeated kind: growing up with a parent who was unpredictable, cruel, or absent; being made to feel unsafe for who you are; or living for years in a home, relationship, or community where you had to stay guarded just to get by. That kind of trauma, often called complex trauma or CPTSD, can quietly shape how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and how safe the world feels.

I work with people navigating:

  • Childhood trauma, emotional neglect, or growing up in a chaotic or unsafe home

  • Complex trauma (CPTSD) from ongoing or repeated harm

  • Emotional, verbal, physical, or sexual abuse

  • Narcissistic or manipulative relationships, family or romantic

  • Trauma connected to identity, rejection, or not being accepted for who you are

  • Single traumatic events that still feel unresolved

If your trauma is rooted in religion or a high-control faith community, see my Religious Trauma Therapy page.

How I work:

You won’t be pushed to tell your whole story before you’re ready. Trauma work starts with safety, and we’ll build that first. Depending on what you need, our work might focus on getting to know the protective parts of you that developed to help you survive, working through specific memories and the beliefs they left behind, or exploring the deeper questions trauma raises: who you are, what you deserve, and what kind of life you want to build now.

For anyone curious about the clinical side: I draw on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), CPTSD-informed trauma treatment, Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based and EFT frameworks, and Meaning-Based/existential therapy, and I move between them based on what a session calls for.

You don’t need to prove that what happened was “bad enough.” If you’ve ever thought “other people had it worse, so I shouldn’t still be affected by this,” that’s exactly the kind of thing we can work through.

What we might work on together:

  • Understanding how your past is still showing up in your reactions, relationships, and body

  • Calming a nervous system that stays on high alert or shuts down to cope

  • Processing painful memories at a pace that feels safe, without being flooded by them

  • Untangling shame and self-blame that were never yours to carry

  • Recognizing and changing old survival patterns like people-pleasing, hypervigilance, or emotional numbing

  • Rebuilding trust in yourself and, over time, in others

  • Setting boundaries with people who caused harm or still do

  • Reconnecting with a sense of who you are beyond what happened to you
